The programmes and classes provided by the Mindful Method are grounded in the teachings of The Mindfulness Association. Their expansive and innovative Mindfulness Based Living Course (MBLC) allows the practitioner to develop an in-depth personal experience of mindfulness with a view to applying this in your personal and professional life.

Mindfulness Based Living Course (MBLC) is a mindfulness approach grounded in the traditional practice of mindfulness, but also drawing on aspects of compassion training, evolutionary psychology, neuroscience and neuroplasticity.

It builds on the existing secular mindfulness based interventions (MBIs) such as Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and develops this into a programme that has application in all aspects of life. It is not a therapeutic approach but instead concentrates on the experiential qualities of mind and how we can relate differently and more calmly towards difficulties in our life. MBLC and the teachings of the Mindfulness Association offered by the Mindful Method allow the practitioner to:

  • Cultivate a deepening sense of awareness
  • Develop a wider appreciation of present moment through awareness of body, sound, emotion and thought
  • Recognise patterns of behaviour that exacerbate stress and anxiety, allowing a more nuanced response that avoids adding to these problems
  • Cultivate a more compassionate attitude towards others and, crucially, ourselves
  • Approach our personal and professional difficulties with confidence and strength
  • Establish mindfulness as a good habit that we can then take into our daily lives

8 Week Mindfulness Based Living Course
This is a course that systematically teaches the MBLC curriculum. The course is done over 8 weeks, with a weekly 2 hour class and a follow up “mindfulness day”. The classes focused on introducing the mindfulness practices with theory, philosophy and poetry judiciously employed to complement the experiential nature of the course. Each week introduces new aspects and new meditation practices, and there are weekly “homework” tasks designed to make practice part of your routine but also make the practices applicable to your daily life.

While teacher led, the emphasis is on group learning and experience, enabling whatever arises within the practises to be woven into the teaching in an organic and evolving way.

The Mindfulness Based Living Course has been designed to give the practitioner the skills needed to continue practising and applying mindfulness to their lives after the course is over, drawing on a sense of resilience and equanimity that the practices are grounded in. An in depth yet accessible course, highly recommended for anyone interested in approaching life, its joy and difficulties, in a more mindful and fulfilling way.

8 Week “Frantic World” Mindfulness Course
The “Frantic World Course” is the re-working of the Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy course by the Oxford Mindfulness Centre. The course was co-developed by Professor Mark Williams of the Oxford Mindfulness Centre and Dr Danny Penman.

“Frantic World” has been specifically designed to bring the benefits of their work to non-clinical settings and for people who live “frantic” lives with constant time pressures who would still like to make time for mindfulness and its benefits.

The course is made up of 8 weekly 1 hour classes. Each week a new meditation practise and theme is introduced. The teaching is experiential with the emphasis on participation and shared experience and as well as the meditative practices there is discussion of the research and science that underpins this cutting edge approach to mindfulness.

The course has been developed along with the book “Mindfulness: a practical guide to finding peace in a frantic world” by Professor Mark Williams and Dr Danny Penman that acts as a manual, guide and inspiration for those who explore the “Frantic World”.

One-to-One Sessions
These are individually tailored to the interests and challenges of the practitioner. Drawing on the core practices of MBLC, the sessions focus on particular aspects of practice or facets of life that the practitioner wishes to work on.

The classes are tailored to fit with the clients’ interests, time frame and motivations for practising mindfulness. While the core mindfulness values and practices are woven into the classes, there is scope for exploring certain aspects in more detail.

This is not therapeutic approach but is again based on experiential practice and designed to allow the practitioner to develop a bespoke and robust mindfulness practise that can then be taken into their daily life.

Drop-In Classes
The Mindful Method currently runs a weekly drop-in meditation class at The Little Escape in Crystal Palace. These are designed to allow practitioners to come together in the supportive group practice environment. The classes are thematic and are designed to be accessible to beginners and experienced mediators alike.

The classes draw on the practices of MBLC which are the backbone of the drop-in teaching. These are augmented by practices drawing on and influenced by mindfulness teachers as varied as Jon Kabat-Zinn, Mark Williams, Rob Nairn, Paul Gilbert, Tara Brach, Thich Nhat Hanh, Pema Chodron and many more.

It is a core belief of the Mindful Method that continued group practice is extremely beneficial in maintaining regular personal mindfulness practice. The element of support found in group practice is highly nourishing and acts as a support when the practice becomes difficult.

Mindfulness in the Workplace
The Mindful Method also offers a variety of approaches and programmes to bring the benefits of Mindfulness to the workplace.
Taster Sessions
An introduction to mindfulness and its application within the workplace. Designed to give an introduction to mindfulness, the science and efficacy of the discipline and how the Mindful Method approach brings benefits within the professional environment.
Mindfulness Workshops
A mixture of set and bespoke workshops that focus on different issues within the workplace including:

  • Team building
  • Conflict Resolution
Mindfulness Skills for Managers
One-to-one or small group classes that focus on developing self-awareness, resilience and reflection. Designed to encourage a more open and authentic management approach – one grounded in awareness of the present moment that allows a more nuanced and creative form of management and leadership.
Online Mindfulness
If you are busy or just prefer to practice mindfulness in the comfort of your home or workplace we offer one to one sessions conducted online (via Skype or Google hangout). You can choose from individual, taster and drop in sessions or you can negotiate a bespoke course. The bespoke courses will be tailored to your own specific interests, needs and requirements. A programme and duration will be agreed and it can be fit around your schedule. This brings mindfulness into the modern age and into your living room or office.
